Hi and happy Thursday! A couple of posts ago, I mentioned I’d do a life update post. I used to do a lot more of those but have realized that I sometimes don’t enjoy writing those types of posts as much as I enjoy sharing recipe and “how to” types of posts. But, for whatever reason, I really do enjoy hearing how other people spend their days, so I thought I’d share a recent “day in the life.” (Specifically, a Wednesday in the life!)
6:45 Wake up and get ready to run. Sometimes, I’ll eat something really small before I run, like some berries, but I’m not hungry this time. I actually don’t have class until 10:10 on Wednesdays, but I like still waking up early to run, get ready for the day, and enjoy a slower-paced morning.
7:00 Head out to run and immediately call my sister. She’s in Baltimore for grad school this year, but since we both run every day at 7 a.m., we’ve started the habit of calling each other to talk while we run. Last year, I had two girlfriends I ran with several days per week, but one’s living off campus this year, so we don’t run together as often, and the other’s studying abroad this semester. It’s been great to “run with” my sister, though, to stay updated on her life.
Throwback picture from our days of running cross country & track together in high school
7:45 Get back from a 5-mile run after a great sister talk
7:45-8:30 Shower and get ready for the day, clean room/make my bed
8:30 Journal and eat breakfast on my futon
Peanut butter oatmeal with shredded coconut and blackberries
9:00-9:50 Review my notes for my upcoming class and pack my lunch
Greek salad with chickpeas, tomatoes, green pepper, cucumber, and feta.
I either make mason jar salads or I pre-chop all of my veggies on the weekend and store them in individual containers so I can quickly assemble salads throughout the week.
9:55 Leave for class, which is only about a 5-minute walk from my dorm.
10:10-11:00 Microeconomics class. I’m a Public Policy and Political Science double-major, and this class fulfills one of the Econ requirements for Public Policy.
11:15-12:30 Public Relations Writing class. I have a Public Relations minor, which I started when I was thinking about going into politics, but kept even when I changed plans. After that, I’m done with class for the day! I LOVE being done with class for the day by 12:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays since I’m not done until 3:15 on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
12:45-2:00 Meet a friend for lunch on the other side of campus. We eat outside at a picnic table in the shade, but on this 90+ degree day, it’s still HOT.2:00-6:00 Walk back to the other side of campus and set up camp in one of the libraries for the afternoon with another friend. I usually work more productively when I’m in the library, so I go just about every day. While I’m there, I snack on a Peanut Butter Cookie Larabar, my most recent favorite.
6:00 Walk back to my dorm to have dinner before a meeting. I snack on some carrots & hummus before dinner. And then have some leftover black beans & rice with leftover sautéed veggies, salsa, and guacamole. This may sound strange, but I freeze leftovers in individual portions all of the time, especially when I’m cooking for just myself. This is actually one of my mom’s famous meals, so I grabbed it (frozen) when I was at home last weekend for Labor Day.
7-8:30 RA Staff Meeting. Every week, our RA staff meets up to talk about things going on in the community, to plan events, etc.
8:35 Eat a couple of dried figs while tidying up my room. These are my favorite after-dinner snack lately. A few of these take care of my sweet tooth!
8:40-10:00 Roommate agreements. As an RA, one of my jobs is to facilitate conversations about living situation preferences with roommates. With 50 residents, I have 25 sets to do in the next couple of weeks. Each meeting takes around 20 minutes, so I knock out the five scheduled for that night in my room. They enjoy bouncing on my stability ball while they talk about roommate things 😉 10:00 Knowing I should go get ready for bed to hit my 10:30-11:00 bedtime, I start responding to emails and writing this post, anyway.
10:30 A resident knocks on my door with an issue and we talk through things.
11:15 Actually go get ready for bed
11:45 In bed, lights out.
And that’s it for the day! Three weeks of classes are almost over, but I feel like I’m still getting into the swing of things a little bit. Living in the same room makes it feel like nothing’s changed, but a lot has. I have new residents, new classes obviously, a new boss, new career goals, etc. And one of my best friends is studying abroad, so of course life feels different without her here, too.
A fun new thing about this year is that my little brother is here! We started our first weekly sibling lunch date last week ago to continue the tradition my sister and I have done for the past two years. Love him lots and am so happy to get to go to school with both of my siblings throughout my 4 years. So, quite a few changes, both fun and maybe some not as fun, but I’m excited to see what the rest of junior year holds!
So tell me…
What’s your favorite after dinner treat lately?
What are/were your favorite classes in high school/college?

You lucked out being the middle child in this case 🙂 So great to have a sibling with you for all four years! I was a PR major so I took a lot of PR writing classes. My favorites classes were always for my sports management minor.
Liv says
I actually kind of love being the middle child! 🙂
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
That’s so cool that you talked with your sister during your run. I’ve never thought about having a phone call during a run! And love your sibling dates, too cute!
Liv says
I usually put earbuds in and just talk using those! (No special headphones or anything!)
Carol Eiseman says
Great update. Wish I could hear your conversations with Marissa and Caleb to know how they are doing.

also, i’ve gotten back to morning workouts again, finally! if you remember, i struggled with that this summer a bit, but i’m so glad to be back in school actually because it gives me a routine! i have class 10-3 M/W and 9-1 /TH, so i”ve getting up by 8 or 7 to run or WO + make a huge smoothie & go! it’s awesome. (though today i slept through (all 5!!) of my alarms so badly, i was actually a wee bit late to class. oops, haha.)

Favorite classes…this semester I’m taking a class on Media and Politics. Fascinating discussions and interesting reads, so definitely my favorite this semester. Always love public speaking classes, too.
Love your running motivation, that’s awesome how you get to stay connected with your sister.
Liv says
Media and Politics sounds like a really interesting class! I’ve always wanted to take a public speaking class and hope to fit one in before I graduate!
Emily says
That’s so neat that you get to have such regular interaction with your brother and sister while there in college. IT looks like you have such a busy schedule; I love that you are really involved in the college life too. 🙂
Liv says
I love getting to spend lots of time with both of them!
Kate says
One thing I miss about undergrad is those long uninterrupted afternoons to get work done. Having several hours in a row to work really allows me to get in productivity mode. Now, to do that I’d have to do it over the weekend and where’s the fun in that? 🙂
I’ve never thought to run and chat, but that would be another way to fit in family time!
Liv says
Yep, I get so much more done when I have a few uninterrupted hours! And yes, I’m all about multitasking when possible, especially when working out!
Kerri says
So fun that you are in the middle so you always have a sibling with you at school! I love dried figs! They are so amazing! Looks like you ve got another busy year ahead- good luck to you Liv!
Liv says
I can’t believe it took me this long to discover dried figs! They’re amazing! And thanks so much, Kerri!
