Hi and happy Monday! I’m really excited to have a chance to sit down and write a new blog post about this past weekend. After 2 exams and 2 papers due last week, I was ready to relax and and do a few fun things once Friday finally rolled around.
My little brother’s senior prom was on Friday night, so my sister and I drove home on Friday afternoon to see him off– major perk of going to college only about 3o minutes away from home. We got home an hour or so before he did, so while we waited, I played with Gracie.
And I made peanut butter chocolate chip energy bites and coconut brownie energy bites– some to take back to school and some to leave at home for my family.
My sister, Marissa, and I couldn’t help but laugh because when Caleb got out of school, he and his friends went to a trampoline gym, washed their cars, and hung out for a couple of hours, and then Caleb got ready for the dance in all of about 15 minutes. We knew the girls had been getting ready all afternoon! But he looked dapper, even if he got ready for prom in the time it takes me just to pick out an outfit some days.
He and his date, along with about 20 other couples, all met up at a friend’s house and my mom, sister, and I tagged along to take pictures.
My dad was out of town at a work conference, so we FaceTimed him into the photo session.
And we even included him into the family photo via FaceTime.
I loved getting to take pictures and be a part of Caleb’s prom night, although I still can’t believe he’s about to graduate! I’m so excited that he’ll go to UNC with me next year, too.
After Caleb and his date headed to the dance, Marissa and I went home to have dinner with my mom before driving back to campus.
We had the best-ever giant salads with grilled teriyaki chicken and roasted veggies. My dad’s usually the grillmaster at out house, but my mom definitely held her own.
After dinner, Marissa and I headed back to campus.
I got up early on Saturday morning to go for a run and loved the weather. Somehow, it was only 30 degrees. I know it’ll be unbearably hot for running soon, so I’m enjoying the cool weather while it lasts.
Afterwards, my boyfriend had a day date planned for us. It was a surprise so I didn’t know where we were going beforehand, but we ended up at Duke Gardens on Duke University’s campus about 20 minutes away. I love surprises! We walked around the huge gardens, visited the chapel, and had lunch outside. It was windy and still a little cold outside, but it was a really fun afternoon with Gray. We went by the grocery store on our way back, and then he dropped me off at my dorm where I worked on a paper for about an hour before leaving again for a game and dessert night with some friends.
There’s a really great family who hosts us about once a month, and our host mom makes the best homemade cinnamon bread. Last night, she also made black bean brownies with chocolate whipped cream since she and her daughter have been following a clean eating plan. The chocolate whipped cream was just whipped coconut cream with cocoa powder added, and the brownies only had cocoa powder, black beans, dates, and chocolate chips. I wouldn’t quite mistake the brownies for my favorite Ghriardelli brownies, but they were a great healthier treat, especially topped with the chocolate whipped cream.
Then, we played the card game, Nertz, for a couple of hours, which is always a good time even though my Nertz skills are very lacking. One of my former residents came to the game night and was my Nertz partner, which was a lot of fun.
On Sunday morning, a friend and I were planning to go watch one of our other friends run her second marathon. We were going to wait for her at different mile markers to run with her for a couple of miles each time, but she had an issue with her race registration and was sick anyway, so she decided not to run the race. So instead, my Sunday consisted of church and then hitting the library for all of the studying and paper writing that hadn’t happened earlier in the weekend. My Friday and Saturday were a lot of fun, though, so I can’t complain!
So tell me…
How was your prom?
My senior prom wasn’t the highlight of my high school years or anything like that, but I went with a friend for a date and I’m glad I did just so I wouldn’t regret not going. (Nothing wrong with not going, though!)
Do you like surprises? Do you like planning them, or do you like being the one surprised?
How was your weekend?
