This summer, I’m interning at the North Carolina Equal Access to Justice Commission! It’s my third week at this job, and I really like it.
It’s been a great low-stress way to spend part of my summer before I start law school. The hours are flexible most days, I work from home 1-2 days per week, and the people are great. All of the staff are attorneys, and I’m learning so much from them.
If you happen to follow me on Instagram, you’ve probably seen lots of daily life snapshots and videos, especially on my stories, but I haven’t done a day-in-the-life blog post since this past fall. So, I decided to do one of a typical summer day for me when I’m at the office!
A Day in the Life
My day began around 6 a.m. when my first alarm went off. I usually wake up halfway when my first alarm goes off, and then when my second one goes off two or three minutes later, I get out of bed. I don’t like to rush in the mornings, so I try to give myself enough time to slowly wake up.
I got dressed, made my bed, and tidied my room to let myself wake up more before I started running. I snacked on some berries before I headed out the door.
I left for my run a little after 6:30 a.m. and cover 5 miles in a little over 40 minutes. The humidity was intense (it’s almost always above 90% during summer mornings here), so the run didn’t feel incredibly pleasant, but like always, I felt great when I’m done.
I got back, showered and got ready for the day. I wear business casual most days, unless we’re going to a presentation or meeting, and then I wear a suit (skirt + blazer).
Then, I headed downstairs to make breakfast and pack my lunch. My typical breakfast these days is eggs plus baked oatmeal or fruit.
I usually pack my lunch while my eggs are cooking, and I snapped a quick photo of my lunch, too, as I packed it so I could share on my Instagram later.
I left for work around 8:45 a.m., which is about 20 minutes away. The traffic’s typically not bad, so it’s a pretty relaxing drive.
I arrive at work just after 9. One of my jobs is managing the social media for the organization, so I scour the news for relevant articles to share on our social media channels and then schedule some tweets and Facebook posts throughout the morning. I try to drink lots of water, too.
I take a break sometime after noon for lunch and heat up some leftover lentil pasta. I also post a photo of my lunch on my Instagram account while I eat lunch before I get back to work.
I spent all afternoon doing some research-related projects for my boss, which I enjoy, and I snacked on two energy bites. Time passed pretty quickly, and I leave the office around 4:15 to head home.
I stopped by home to pick up my dog, who loves car rides, and we dropped off one of my blazers at the dry cleaners. This first photo below makes me laugh because she loves the car but looks so grumpy here.
I arrived back at home and caught up with my brother about his day for a few minutes and had a Siggi’s with a fresh peach.
I headed upstairs to change into comfy clothes and do a bit of planning for the blog. I’m hoping to have time tomorrow to make some recipes for the blog, so I need to decide what to make and what ingredients to pick up.
Since I’m living at home for the summer, I have dinner most nights with my brother and my parents. We had salad, plus this skillet chicken with mushroom my mom made.
After dinner, we watched the second half of Black Panther. We started watching it on Sunday night for Father’s Day after a fun afternoon of kayaking with the whole fam, but ran out of time to finish. I finished putting this blog post together during the movie.
During the movie, I had a couple bites of Talenti Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup gelato, plus some Quinn popcorn I shared with my family. I did just a sponsored Instagram story with Quinn popcorn (this mention isn’t sponsored),but it’s amazing. I’ve tried the white cheddar, just sea salt, butter & sea salt, and maple kettle corn flavors so far, and they’ve all been so good. Some workday nights are more eventful, but this was a quiet night at home, and I like those, a lot, too. I headed to bed around 11, and that’s a day in the life!
Question for you:
What’s your go-to after dinner treat these days?
